DESCRIPTION:We are starting a pilot radio program that is designed specifically for Cub Scouts called the Radio Cub Scouting Award. There are four components which include 1. Radio Communication Procedures 2. Morse Code 3. Radio Direction Finding 4. On the Air with HF and VHF/UHF QSOs. The goal is to introduce amateur radio in a fun and efficient way to get the Cub Scouts interested in radio. Upon successful completion the Cub Scouts will earn a Radio Cub Scouting patch that can be worn on their uniform. ARRL Kids day is a great opportunity to have more amateur radio operators available for QSOs. The event will be held on a grass field in front of the Troop 19 / Pack 19 Scout House located on the Huntersville Presbyterian Church property. DESCRIPTION:Gulf Stream Council is hosting a Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) Camporee. This international jamboree is held annually on the 3rd weekend of October and uses communication technology to connect Scouts from around the world. Be a part of the world’s largest amateur radio scouting event that promotes friendship and global citizenship. Attending JOTA will satisfy requirement 7E of the Citizenship in The World Merit Badge. Activities include learning and using amateur radios (ham radios)\, lashing together a radio antenna tower\, radio fox hunt (find the hidden transmitter)\, contests\, council fire\, meet members from local amateur radio clubs\, learn about how to become a license amateur radio operator\, see demonstration of technology\, get help programming your radio\, council fire\, and more. Enjoy a great weekend of camping. Registration as a unit is preferred. \nScouts can sign up for only ONE Merit Badges class. The MB class will be 4 hours block either in the morning or afternoon. Classes are limited to ten scouts. Some merit badge will have prerequisites\, See Leader Guide for details. When not in merit badge class scouts should get on the radios and make contact around the world.\nAn FCC License Exam session will be offered all day on Saturday inside of Lassiter. Two forms of ID will be needed for the exam. Scouts wanting to take and pass the FCC exam will need to get Gordon West 2022-2026 Technician Class Book and start studying on their own or with a local radio club. See leader guide for details. \nThe registration fee includes a full weekend of camping\, meals\, council fire\, activities\, JOTA patch\, and a JOTA QLS Card. Units will receive a participation ribbon for troop flag. Meals will be served out of the dining hall on Saturday and Sunday breakfast. There will be NO day campers for scouts. There will be NO provisional campers so sign up and attending as unit. If units are hungry on Friday night visit the NYLT fundraisers Grill for dinner. \nWebelos and AOL program include Science Everywhere Nova Award Tech Talk and build and launch water bottle rockets. SUMMARY:K2BSA/8 - Trail To Eagle 2024 - Metamora\, MI
DESCRIPTION:The Trail to Eagle (TTE) program is a specifically designed provisional program for the older Scout to give them the opportunity to work on the merit badges they need to finish the Eagle Scout rank requirements. It is a one week\, highly structured program held at D-bar-A Scout Ranch. Scouts must be at least 1st Class rank by June 26th and 13 years of age. This program has been offered to Youth for over 25 years by an amazing all volunteer staff\, and they continue to set the bar high every year! \nSince its inception in 1994\, over 3\,100 Eagle candidates from 12 states\, 31 councils\, as well as from the Far East and Trans-Atlantic Councils\, have attended this unique\, one of a kind program. One of the largest attended camps had 191 Scouts participate from six states\, eleven different councils\, and a Scout from Shanghai\, China. Scouts from nearly every corner of the Michigan Crossroads Council have participated in this event. \nOver 64% of our candidates have attained the rank of Eagle Scout and even more are still working on achieving this lofty goal. We have 60 staff members who have been with the program for ten years or more. There is a ratio of one staff member for every two youth. \nThe Scouts have earned\, on average\, over 1\,000 merit badges each year with an average of over six merit badges per Scout. TTE is not a merit badge mill\, but rather a highly structured week that allows ample time to work on merit badges. A Scout must earn the merit badge; they are not just given one. \nAll participants\, who are called “Eagle Candidates” will be divided into provisional troops\, and will be based out of the cabins at D-bar-A Scout Ranch. Overseeing the Scouts will be at least three Scoutmasters and a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster (JASM)\, many of whom are Eagle Scouts\, and in most cases have gone through the TTE program. All meals will be served by the D-bar-A food service staff\, in Wyckoff Lodge Dining Hall. \nWhile the emphasis is on earning merit badges\, there will be many other high adventure activities which all add to the fun. These include: flag ceremonies\, a water ball competition\, “Basarball” (volleyball)\, Boy Scout Jeopardy\, chess tournament\, a camp wide Vesper Service\, and the ever-popular Order of the Arrow ice cream social. \nThroughout the week\, the Eagle candidates are competing for the highly coveted Troop Spirit Award. Troops demonstrate their spirit with cheers and songs performed at assemblies before and during all meals. \nOne of the MOST sought-after distinctions is the George Thomas Award. This award is presented to Eagle Candidates who exhibit the same spirit and enthusiasm that this outstanding Scouter showed for the principles of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. \nUpon completion of the Trail to Eagle Camp\, there is a special honors ceremony for the Eagle Candidates. The special event is open to and highly encouraged for all parents\, siblings\, grandparents\, aunts\, uncles and friends to attend. \nRadio Merit badge will be taught to interested scouters and special event station K2BSA/8 will be on the air during the week\, as time allows\, using frequencies 14.330\, 7.270 and 3.840. \nhttps://scoutingevent.com/272-TTE2024

DESCRIPTION:This is BSA Troop 3 Newport’s annual pilgrimage to historic Yawgoog Scout Reservation\, 1800 acres of forest in Rockville\, RI. Scouts dig a deep pit\, line it with hot coals\, and then cook 2-3 turkeys for several hours. Families and guests enjoy an early Thanksgiving meal on Saturday night. The Camp is currently celebrating its 106th season. Stations are invited to receive a picture of our activities that we will send via Winlink using VARA FM (send requests to K1NPT@arrl.net).
